Debbie, my dear sister

This is my dear OLDER sister, Debbie. *smile* (I'm the baby girl of the family ;-) ) We talk most every morning by 8am. We enjoy eachother's company so much. I love this time of life where I am at with my sisters. We have gotten to be such great friends! Anywayyyy........Debbie just KILLS the English language. Oh my word, she just kills it! For instance.....she calls an AFGHAN an AFRICAN. I kid you not!! LOL I've tried enunciation and phonics with her, spelling the words out slowly, but to no avail. She still calls them africans. So, I'm talking to her this morning and she is telling me that she had some indigestion yesterday and that it was probably because of her HYENA hernia. WHAATTT???? Hello???? It is HIATAL hernia, Debbie. Sheesh! LOL She just laughs about it all, as do I, because, at this stage of the game, there is no changin' the girl. She is what she is! *smile* She also has the southeastern Ohio lingo. For example: boosh for bush/ crick for creek/poosh for push/deeshes for dishes/feesh for fish/spayshul for special. I could go on. Trust me. *grin* Ya gotta love her, fractured english and all. *sigh* Bottom line...she makes me smile and we have a wonderful sisterhood, so it just doesn't matter how she talks......just so we talk! Often!

That would drive me insane! I am a stickler for correctness with the English language - at least with other people, I get a bit lazy myself! My pet peeves are things like "2" instead of "too" or "u" instead of "you". Here in Australia the literacy rate is depressing.

Text messages are the worst, all the abrievations used, and absence of puntuation and spelling...

Its always funny seeing Australians on US TV when they appear with subtitles so the US audience has any idea what we are saying:)

On staces comment we in the western world are becoming a lazy, stupid and apathetic mob... Even countries such as Russia have higher lieracy levels than us (98%) compared to US functionaly literate rate of 60ish... Very depressing

Hi Stace and Aiden....yes, yes, I understand so well what you are saying. *feeble smile* You should be here in the states all of the time and have to hear it or, worse yet, read it. I, too, am quite a stickler on vocabulary and pronunciation, for all the good that it does me! LOL But, I have to get beyond it, especially for the people I love and just accept them for who they are and how they talk! Maybe I irk them with the way I talk? Could it be??? *grin*

Hi, Sis. Hurst! No, I haven't seen a Texas dictionary...I'll have to look one up! They have a language all their own,hm? *grin* Why doesn't that surprise me? LOL
