Weigh-in day!
Here is a picture of the Smoked Sausage and Creole Vegetables I made yesterday. I thought it looked really good! Oh, and it was! It is one of Ed's favorites! And he likes corn muffins with it! With lots of butter on them!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And while I'm posting pictures, here are a few more to share!
Here is one of Daniel's dog, Heidi at our front porch gate waiting on Daniel to come back out! She's the dog that almost ate Ellie a few months back!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is a t-shirt that Daniel and Erin got me recently! I just love it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And here is a picture of the MAIN MAN, sitting on grandma's bed yesterday! I sat him there while I folded some clothes and he entertained himself with his tongue, which he has discovered this week, and his little toy dragon!
I did it!!
Jaylon has really taken a long nap this afternoon, so I managed to get about an hour's nap in myself. Ed and I may go to camp tonight which would really be nice....just me and the hubs, enjoying the drive, relaxing. AND they have the best subs in the dining hall after service! Ed and I always split one because they are pretty big. AND they have a works bar for them and we load them down with everything! I always look forward to going to the dining hall after service, not just to eat but to see so many people that I don't get to see any other time or very often!
Another very awesome thing is to see the young men who were campers when I was a dorm supervisor, who are now ministers and pastors. How wonderful it is to see that they have allowed the Lord to direct their paths and they are endeavoring to do His will. And it isn't just the pastors that count, though theirs is an awesome job, but it is also those who are ministers and teachers because they encourage the pastors and admonish the saints. Each person's calling is so important to the kingdom of God. A pastor cannot do it all for his saints or himself even. It is so necessary that he allows other men of God to minister and teach his saints. Many times they will receive teaching and intruction from another minister easier than they will from their pastor. (Remember, we can be a fickle bunch! :-0 And we can be so quick to criticize those Israelites in the wilderness!)
ANDDDDD....on a lighter note......I love seeing all of the different hairstyles and clothes, though I am getting to be one of the "older crowd" and the younger styles just don't appeal to me. I've entered the comfortable and nice-looking group. *smile* And I'm liking it ALOT!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I asked a friend from church to go to camp with me last night. We've known each other for years and she is a sweetheart but until last night, I don't know that we've ever done anything together one-on-one. I wondered how it would go and we had a wonderful time!! We talked all the way up and back. Hard to believe, hm? *smile* It is about a 45-minute to an hour drive to Buckeye Lake from our house, so it is nice to have some good conversation on the way! :-) This friend is just a sweetheart and she reminded me that I prayed her through many years ago. My, my.....it brought tears to my eyes and does so even now. I also was privileged to teach her dear mother a home bible study and I've prayed with her many times. He older sister has been coming to church for about two months now and we are going to begin a bible study with her as soon as she can work out a time for us to have it. We can never give up on our loved ones coming to the Lord because this precious friend of mine has been coming to church for years and it has only been in the last three years that her mother, who is 74, has come in and now her sister, who is 55. "As long as Jesus lives, there is hope!"

Hit the floor running!
Besides taking care of little Jaylon, I've done my morning housework and all of the little things I do each morning, fixed food for an after-the-funeral gathering at church. A dear saint and mother at our church lost her middle child last week to an untimely death. I fixed creole vegetables w/smoked sausage, corn muffins and a mexican wedding cake, while doing laundry, feeding Jaylon, and on and on.
Then my sister Debbie called to remind me that I had promised to take her to get food at the monthly food give-a-way here in Hocking County. So, Ed watched Jaylon while I took the food to the church, went to the bank, picked up Debbie, got her food, took her back home, then headed home myself.
By this time it is one o'clock and I haven't stopped and I have to get home because Ed has to leave by two o'clock and I knew that he would want to rest for a bit.
Wellllll....he's been gone for awhile. Little Jaylon has been napping for some time now and I'm taking a breather. Oh, and I also laid down for a few minutes and caught a power nap myself.
I am so wanting to go to the first night of family camp tonight but I don't know if there will be any steam left in the old engine or not! *feeble grin*
Oh, but when I was younger, I worked a full-time job and went to camp every night, got home after midnight some nights and went to work the next morning at 7am, only to get off work at three in the afternoon and do it all over again.
BUT those days are gone, I'm afraid. Where did they go? I would like to have them back just for this week. But, alas.....it is not to be.
And another thing about going to camp tonight.....we have to have our car......we got a 2003 (I think it's a 2003. I'll check and let you know for sure!) Chevy Malibu last week....it is one sweet car.....and Ed has to drop it off tomorrow morning by eight to have cruise control installed. Soooo, I have to take Jaylon and meet him there and then go with him while he takes his student to Athens. Soooo, if I am out late tonight I am surely not going to feel like getting up in the morning and heading to Athens BUT I can sleep on the way down and back and Jaylon probably will, too. We'll just have to see how it all goes.
One last thing......our pastor's father....dear elder Bro. Martin is not doing well physically at all. He is 90 and has lived a good life and lived for the Lord but his body has been failing him so these past several months. His heart is now only functioning at 20% and then sometime in the night he fell. He is in the hospital now and he may not be with us much longer. Please pray for Bro. Marting and for his precious wife, as she has been through so much these past few months and has been dealing with many health issues herself. Oh, but they are the most precious people.

Do you have a need to celebrate?
I will not be celebrating because today is weigh-in day and I lost another pound! That's 10lbs. total!! BUT after I lose another 5lbs. I am going to celebrate by having either a junk food day OR a pig-out day! Well, not toooo big of a pig-out day because I don't like that overly-stuffed feeling but I'm going to do some serious eathing! "Eathing"???? Well, as soon as I get done "lisping"! Sheesh!
What is your favorite junk food? Mine has to be Original Doritos. Oh my! I looooove them! Second would have to be pizza. Is pizza a junk food? Hmmm....I'm not sure. Third? Cheeseburgers! Juicy cheeseburgers with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles and Miracle Whip!!! *sigh* I do love food....
Sooooo, I've been craving BACON. Ilooooove bacon! So, this morning I broiled bacon and had two eggs and a piece of toast. Bacon and eggs aren't fattening if you fix the bacon fairly crisp, pat it with a paper towel to get the excess drippings off and do the same with the eggs and lightly butter your toast. I can't handle dry toast. It has to have some butter on it. Anywayyyy.....it was all very scrumptious AND satisfying!
I don't know if I mentioned this on my blog or not but a few weeks ago, I was listening to a talk-radio program and they were talking about weird diets. One of the weird diets was the Chewing Diet. The premise of this diet was that you are to chew your food at least thirty times before swallowing. This would mean that you would eat more slowly, your digestion and elimination would improve and you would feel full sooner. Well, being one who tends to eat too fast anyway, I thought I would give it a try. Though I don't actually chew my food thirty times EVERY time, I do chew it at least twenty times and I actually TASTE my food now. AND it is much more satisfying. So incorporating some of the suggestions has really helped me.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sooooooo, my 10lb. weight loss means that I am no longer lugging around the equivalent of a 10 lb. bag of potatoes with me all of the time any longer! It really helps me to visualize these things!
What to do!?!?!? *yawwwnnnnn*
I am up and at 'em every other day of the week and I keep telling myself that I deserve a do-nothing kind of morning. (The afternoon is going to be busy!...a birthday party AND a wedding! :-0)
Ellie, the kitty of the house, woke me up at her usual 5:45AM, but I was sort of awake anyway. Not being able to lay there any longer, I got up and made coffee, fed and watered Ellie, and got my morning started.
It is now 9:28 and I've done nothing....nada. zilch. And I'm feeling pretty good about it. ;-)
Oh, I did crawl back into bed, once Ed got up, and I sprawled out and just dozed about for awhile but I am back up and here, as you can read.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yesterday was Daniel's Friday off and he asked me to watch Jaylon while he went golfing. When he came to pick Jaylon up, Jaylon was napping. Daniel is the only parent I know who wakes his baby froom a nap so he can play with him and talk to him.... and he did!!! Jaylon wakes up with a smile on his face! So while they played, I sat on the bed and Daniel and I talked about this and that for some time and played with the baby.
Daniel asked me rather abruptly: "Mom, don't you have anyone to talk to?" And I asked him why he asked me that. He said because I talked to him so nonstop while he was here. Well, I told him that I have plenty of people to talk to....Ed, dear friends, sisters, brothers....but I looooove talking to him and it's so seldom that we get one-on-one time to talk and visit. You're my son, my baby! In just the same way that you love to talk and play with Jaylon, I feel that same way about you, even if you are 23!!!!! Well, okay, I'm not going to be tossing you up into the air any time soon or some of that other stuff that you only do with babies but you get the idea. Then he understood...well, as much as an adult child can, but should the Lord tarry, and Jaylon be an adult one day, Daniel will understand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I learned a new song this week for the wedding that I am doing this afternoon. The bride gave me a CD copy of the song so I could learn it this week. I didn't know the artist or title until I played it for Daniel. He said it is Phil Vassar and the song is "Like I Never Loved Before". What a beautiful song!!! I will be singing/playing it after the bridal party has come into the sanctuary and is in place but the bride and father are standing in the doorway waiting to come down the aisle, as she looks at her husband-to-be standing at the altar waiting for her.
Wellllll.....we did this last night at rehearsal and it was all I could do to get through the song! *whew*
I guess I gave myself to someone,
Maybe a time or two,
I tried, I went through the motions,
What was I supposed to do,
I spun my wheels, I wasted so much time,
And then with you I finally got it right.
It's like I never loved before,
Like I never saw the sun,
Or felt the rainfall on my face,
It's like it's never ever been,
I can't imagine life without you anymore,
It feels just like I never loved before.
I never talked about forever,
Now it's not long enough,
Who's that guy lookin' in the mirror,
Cause it's not the man I was,
I only know I tremble when we kiss,
I'm making up for everything I missed.
I ran around in circles,
I never knew...
I was only getting ready for you.
It's like I never loved before,
Like I never saw the sun,
Or felt the rainfall on my face,
It's like it's never ever been,
I can't imagine life without you anymore,
It feels just like I never loved before.
I'd post a YouTube video of the song but I am not able to view it first but do go have a listen yourself. It's a beautiful song!
When I sing these songs at weddings or wherever, I always sing them for Ed. I told him that one time and he gave me the sweetest smile. It's true...I do! He's the love of my life...next to the Lord! And he's okay with that! *smile*
ANDDDD lastly! How about that Tom Watson at the British Open! Booyahhhhhhh!!!!!! He's tied for the lead!! How great is that?!?!??!?!? HERE is a very good article about it!!!
Just call me Gimpy
I'll be going in for x-rays this week but my appointment with the doctor is not until Aug. 13! I wish I had not waited so long, but, oh well. They assured me that they would call if they had a cancellation between now and then.
I just can't believe this!!! My knee, I mean. Maybe I won't have to have a replacement. Perhaps it will only require an injection, which I've heard quite a few people say has really helped them!
My right knee is fine, amazingly. Thankfully.
I just want to get this fixed as soon as possible so that my "gimpiness" doesn't throw something else in my body off and cause it to go on the blink! Like my good right knee or make my back worse or....or....or whatever else could go wrong!!!! Argh!!!
Oh, but it could be so much worse, I know, so I'll not complain any further!
No, I'll just gimp along with a smile and thank the Lord for His abundant goodness to me!!!
Oh, but I do remember those days when I used to wear gorgeous heels and glide along so gracefully.....*sigh*....."Those were the days, my friend.....We thought they'd never end....We'd sing and dance forever and a day!!!" *sighhhhhhh*
Ain't It the Truth!? :-)
I asked the Lord to tell me
Why my house is such a mess..
He asked if I'd been 'computering',
And I had to answer 'yes.'
He told me to get off my fanny
And tidy up the house.
And so I started cleaning up...
The smudges off my mouse.
I wiped and shined the topside.
That really did the trick.......
I was just admiring my work.
I didn't mean to 'click.'
But click, I did, and oops I found
A real absorbing site.
That I got SO way into it.
I was into it all night.
Nothing's changed except my mouse
It's very, very shiny.
I guess my house will stay a mess......
While I sit here on my hiney.
This and that
Only time will tell what I end up doing, but the first option is really tickling my fancy. :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I marinated steaks today and grilled them out for our dinner. I also made us a delicious salad and baked potato. Jaylon had Hawaiian Delight and Beef and Noodle Dinner while he ogled our food. :-) He is soooo funnny. When he is REALLY hungry, as soon as I sit down with his food and his little spoon, he sits there holding his little mouth open like a little bird. It is sooooo adorable!!! :-) AND when he is ready to take a nap and wanting his bottle, if you hold it out and let him see it, he opens his little mouth and does this thing that is kind of a laugh/cry/whine combination. It is funnnnyyyyyy!!! :-)
Here is a picture of him in his newest toy, though it isn't ACTUALLY new but it is to him and he loves it!

I played my keyboard and sang at the Lilyfest yesterday afternoon from 1-2:00. I had not performed there for 4 or 5 years because of my health problems but when contacted this year about doing one hour in the afternoon, I thought I could manage that.
I do music at church all of the time but the closer it got to the Lilyfest, the more nervous I became about doing it, which was kind of silly of me, I guess. It's just that it had been awhile and most of the music is folk/appalachian/country style. Mine is easy-listening/love songs, i.e. Killing Me Softly/Roberta Flack, The Rose/Bette Midler, Annie's Song/John Denver, Somewhere Out There/Disney, Forever's As Far As I'll Go/ Alabama...just to name a few. Everything went very well, I received alot of compliments and I enjoyed performing so much. You don't really have an audience sitting in front of you, per se. People are strolling through the beautiful gardens and perusing the artisans' wares while the music is being played and so on. There are benches scattered about the grounds where people can sit and people do stop to listen. The sound system was awesome and the music and singing carries out over the small valley where the Lilyfest is held. I thoroughly enjoyed it all! :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After performing at the Lilyfest, I came home, showered, took a nap and headed back to church where I did music for the evening service and Ed and I sang. An elderly lady who has been coming to church for some time with her husband, was baptized in Jesus' Name last night!! It was so awesome!! She is such a sweet little thing and it just touches my heart so especially to see older people find the Lord and surrender their lives to Him and fall in love with Him!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daniel called us this morning and asked us to pray for him as he and his co-workers had just received an email saying that 35 salaried workers were going to be laid off today, not just at the Lancaster office/plant but in all of the offices/plants across the country. He did not get laid off. At least not in this round. But he told us that it was one of the worst experiences he has ever had. He said there is no apparent rhyme or reason as to who they choose to lay off or why. He said that throughout the day, men and women were called into HR and given the news. Most had more time in than Daniel. A couple of people didn't. He said there were alot of tears. And I believe he said that there were to be more lay-offs in time, so we will just have to wait and see and pray.
Ed and I have been there. Would you believe Ed has gone through THREE plant closings in our 23 years of marriage AND numerous lay-offs and job cuts BUT he has never been without some sort of income and has always been blessed to be able to find another good job. Even now, he has an excellent part-time job doing private transport for our local school system. He is officially retired but he will, no doubt, always do something part-time as long as he is able. That is just Ed. :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our monthly ladies' meeting is tomorrow night and I am supposed to take a dessert. A main dish would be so much easier for me as I am not a dessert person BUT I think I am going to make the red, white and blue trifle that I made for the church picnic or possibly the fruit salad that I made for my uncle's birthday bash!
Hope you've had a good Monday! It has been a beeeyoooootiful one here in Ohio!!! :-)
A free day!!!!
Here's my take: If they want to sell cars, they need to bring back retro cars. Like when Ford brought back the retro Mustangs! You saw them everywhere! Just think if they made a new version of a '57 Chevy but with the new plastics, which would make them much lighter, and so on. Those things would fly out of the showrooms! But, who am I? Just a housewife from SE Ohio. What do I know?
You see, back in the day, you could tell a Chevy from a Ford from an Olds. But now they just all look alike.
Oh, and back in the day, I had a '67 Chevy Impala, 283, pale yellow with black pinstriping and chrome wheels, 3-speed on the column, black-tufted interior, bench seats. It was beautiful! Oh, and it had dual exhausts, chrome pipes. *sigh* Those were the days......
***********************
It is now Monday and I will endeavor to finish this particular post.
Ed and I went grocery shopping Saturday afternoon. We usually try to avoid shopping on Saturday because the stores are so crowded but we've managed to do this two Saturdays in a row now! We've got to stop it! *smile*
I didn't mind going grocery shopping but I just didn't feel like talking to a bunch of people. You know what I mean? I told Ed that I wished I could put on a mask or put a bag over my head so I could just shop for groceries and not see a bunch of people that I know and feel like I have to talk to everyone. Do you all ever feel that way? I mean, I am a very sociable person/ a people person, but some days I just don't feel like being that way, you know?
Anywayyyy.....it wasn't so bad after all. *grin* And, yes, I did talk to those people that I saw and knew and even some that I didn't! Go figure! *smile*
Oh, and we were on the hunt for Jaylon some new pacifiers. You see, he has had these two that he really likes but he has flattened the nipple on one and the other one is kind of peeling or something, so Erin, unable to find pacifiers like the old ones, bought him a new one, which he is slowly getting used to but he just doesn't care for it that much. Well, Ed and I looked in every store in Logan.....there aren't that many.....and were unable to fine any like his old ones. Sooooo, he'll just have to get used to this new one. But you know we grandmothers can be with these little ones. We want them to have what they want. *sigh*
Little Jaylon is also now using the sippy nipples (that's what I call them anyway...*grin*) on some of his bottles. Well, they are okay but I think it seems like he is getting his milk too fast with some of them, so I told Erin and Daniel to be sure and send me a bottle with a regular nipple plus sippy nipples. They told me that he needs to get used to the sippy ones and I know that he does, but he stills needs his sucky nipples (as I call them), too.
Okay, you moms and grandmas know what I am talking about! LOL And, yes, I know, I know. I need to do what Daniel and Erin want me to do where Jaylon is concerned. And I am, I am.....you'd be very proud of me! *smile* The kids do thank me all of the time for taking care of little Jaylon and let me know how much they appreciate it!
I was feeling so tired this morning when Ellie pounced on me at 5:45am and woke me up. But I drug myself out of bed and started the coffee. I fed Ellie and did a few things in the kitchen and then got my coffee and sat down in my chair in the living room, still feeling pretty draggy, but then here came Ed bringing little Jaylon in the door and just one look at that little smiling baby perked me right up! He is such a happy baby, so full of smiles!
Daniel and Erin got him a new walker/bouncy thingy over the weekend and I can't wait to see him in it, but he is taking his morning nap, so I will just have to be patient and let him sleep. We'll have the rest of the day to play!! *smile*
Weigh-in day....a couple of days late!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh, and my family doctor called yesterday morning because they had gotten the info from Urgent Care. I had been there last week when I was so sick and they diagnosed me with C-diff? Well, it turns out that I didn't have C-diff but rather, food-poisoning! I'm tellin' ya....I've never been so sick! I am feeling much, much better, though I do still have occasional stomach pains.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Erin called last night and asked me to go with her to Columbus as she has a doctor's appt today. So, I need to get off of here and get myself ready to go!
Have a great Thursday, everyone!!
Red, White and Blue Trifle
Here is the recipe if you'd like to give it a try!
Red, White and Blue Trifle
2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese
2 cups confectioners' sugar
8 ounces sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 pint whipping cream
1 angel food cake (store bought is fine)
1 quart strawberries
1 quart blueberries
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons of vanilla
Cream together cream cheese and confectioners sugar.
Add sour cream and vanilla Set this mixture aside.
In separate bowl whip the whipping cream and add to cream cheese mixture.
Tear up angel food cake and mix in with cheese mixture.
In separate bowl (s) place strawberries and blueberries 3/4 cup sugar and 1 tsp. vanilla
(You can mix the berries together or keep separate, for a pretty red, white and blue look;if separate divide sugar and vanilla between the two bowls).
In a clear glass bowl alternate layers of the cream cheese mixtures and the berries.
Garnish the top with berries.
Refrigerate for a couple of hours.
This looks absolutely beautiful and taste just as great!
I whipped up the other 8oz. of whipping cream, because you have to buy a pint anyway and what would I do with 8oz. of leftover whipping cream :-)? (to which I added a little granulated sugar to sweeten) to top the dessert with because there just wasn't quite enough of the other mixture to finish it off. Then I put berries that I had saved on the top!
I really can't stay on here but I wanted to post why I haven't been blogging. I FB'd a tad in the middle of the night. But I am still just weak.
Oh and I AM hungry!!! For REAL food! Oh, but a medium rare steak, fried potatoes, a luscious side salad, hot, buttery rolls.
May each of you have a wonderful July 4th weekend as we celebrate our freedoms. For all that is wrong with this country.....(and that would be the government).....it is still the greatest country in the world. God bless the U.S.A. and our military men and women who work so diligently to keep us free and also to aid other countries that they might one day have the same freedoms we often take for granted.
