I went to the library the other night and uploaded some recent pictures to my blog because it takes me so long to do so here at home with dial-up. Soooooo, below you will find said pictures in no particular order, I'm afraid. But! I will provide a running dialogue so you will at least know what they are.

Well....you'll know who that cute little baby boy is, IF you've been reading my blog for any length of time. He's pretty popular around here! :-)

The first picture, taken for your viewing pleasure AND for my memory-keeping, is of my sweet potato plant. I looooove my sweet potato plant. Are they as popular any where else as there are here locally?

I hadn't even seen or heard of them until Logan (my hometown) began participating in "America In Bloom" and the chairperson (who is a wonderful horticulturist) began using the sweet potato plants in planters, hanging baskets and anywhere else that he could in the plantings in downtown Logan. They add so much vibrant color and lushness to the plantings.
As you can see, I hung mine right outside my kitchen window so I can enjoy it all day! :-)

Below is a pictue of grandpa and Jaylon reading his little Easter pop-up book, "Five Little Easter Eggs".
Jaylon loooooves his books, though maybe not quite as much now that summer is here. He likes to be outside in the wide open spaces!!! BUT grandma and grandpa do need a break once in awhile. :-)

Below is a picture of my baby....er, uh....I mean, our son, Daniel, that I just love! Well, I mean, I do loooove him, of course, but I especially looooove this particular picture of him. I believe Erin took it over the July 4th weekend as they were driving to Akron, where they spent the weekend with these friends, whom some of you who read my blog know quite well! :-)


These next two pictures are of a family of swans that live at the upper end of Lake Logan, a local state park that is just a half-mile from our church which is located on....*drum roll please*....Lake Logan Road!!!! :-)

Anywayyyy....the mommy and daddy swans took up residence at the upper end of Lake Logan two or three years ago and have become quite a popular pair in the meantime as they've had babies and just become friendly with the locals.
Local photographers REALLY like them as they have presented some wonderful photo-ops through the months.


Awwwww....and this next little creature has a story to tell!!!
When Daniel and Erin came outside after church about three or four weeks ago, this cute little guy was wandering around without any tags on. Sooooooo, Erin having never met an animal that she does not looooove, took him home and commenced to trying to find out who he belonged to.
After having no luck at that.....and in the meantime, we all fell in love with him....she put an ad on Craig's List and found him a home with a veterinarian.
Since we didn't know the little doggy's name, we started calling him Spock, because we just thought he had a kind of Star Trekky look to him. :-)
You know the look.....so ugly that he's kinda cute? LOL
He was very well trained and obedient, so we just can't figure out why someone didn't come looking for him. We put up fliers, put an ad in the paper, ads on the three different radio stations.
Oh, and we figured out pretty much that he's a French Bulldog. AND a little doll baby! :-) I'm just thankful that Erin found a good home for him!

I think I've mentioned here before how much Jaylon loves to play the drums, haven't I? Well, below is more proof!

He doesn't have drums yet but I get out bowls for him to drum on AND we have an empty popcorn tin that he REALLY makes a racket on!!!

ANDDDDDD this next pictures is just simply one of my favorites!!! It is of Jaylon and his Mawmaw Pat, Erin's mother.
Pat watches Jaylon during church services as Erin is usually praise-singing or helping teach youth class and Daniel is playing drums, leading worship, teaching youth class or any other number of things.
I've not taken care of Jaylon during a church service but I can imagine that he could be a hand full as he is a bundle of energy.

This next picture is of Jaylon waving his flag during the July 4th celebration in Akron or Tallmadge, when he and his mommmy and daddy spent the weekend with Dave, Heather and little Maddy.

Oh, and lastly.....Jaylon loooooved Maddy's Little Mermaid Dresser. :-) As you can tell! :-)

Thoughts on AC

With the heat and humidity being so intense over the weekend, it seemed that there was alot of discussion about air-conditioning during the past few days.

You know, we didn't have air-conditioning when I was a child. My sister, Debbie and I shared a bedroom...a SMALL bedroom.....and I remember we had a screen in the window but we didn't even have a fan! BUT, I also don't have any memories of not being able to sleep because of the heat either. Actually, I don't remember the heat and humidity being a big deal at all when I was a child.

If my memory serves me correctly, I don't remember having any fans in the house. I'm sure we must have had at least one but I just don't remember it and neither do my siblings. And, yet, we don't remember complaining about the heat, either.

It was what it was. It was just what happened in the summer. It got hot. You still played, rode your bike, waded in the "crick", built brush forts in the woods, swung from a grapevine - if you could find a good sturdy one that was attached securely to said tree, although on occasion it wouldn't be and you would go "THUD" and survive without breaking any bones. :-)

Johnny, my twin brother, and I played on, whether it was hot or not. It was summer. That was what you did. You woke up, ate breakfast, threw on some clothes and headed outside to see what adventure awaited or that you could conjure up! :-)

We built treehouses, played cowboys and indians, combat and spent our weekly quarter allowance on old bike parts and started a bike repair shop in an old out-building. We were always up to something! :-) The heat and humidity didn't stop us!

Anywayyyy.....back to the AC.

Daniel, Erin, and Jaylon stayed with friends this past weekend AND the only AC was in the main bedroom, which wasn't Daniel and Erin's. All they had was a fan.

But they had a great time! I guess I just can't believe that Daniel, especially, stayed and was able to sleep without AC!!! I mean, he sleeps with a fan on in the winter!!!

I was just amazed that they spent four days away without AC. AND they didn't even complain about it.

It was HOT and HUMID this past weekend with a heat index of well over 100 and it is going to continue through this week.

Our pastor's mother, who is 87, doesn't have AC in the main part of her house upstairs at ground level, where she sleeps. She told me that she opens the two bedroom windows and actually sleeps pretty well.

The basement of her house is like a second little house downstairs and she spends some of her time down there where it is just naturally cool.

Me? I'd be sleeping down there, too! :-) But she has alot of difficulty getting up and down the stairs now so she spends most of her time upstairs. And she doesn't complain about the heat. It just is what it is.

Sooooooo, we had our annual church picnic on Sunday evening........outside......in the heat and humidity. There was nary a breeze to be felt. It was suffocating. Hazy. You get the idea.

I think I am turning into a complete wimp where the heat is concerned!

Oh. well. Well, I say that but then I'm reading about how this week is really going to put a burden on the country's power grids because of the high demand during this heatwave and I get a little concerned because I LOOOOOVE me some AC!!!! :-0

And then.....to top it all off.....even with the AC keeping the house cool, we usually have one ceiling fan and an occilating fan running.

See? I am a wimp! :-/

Sooooo, how do you feel about the AC? Can you take it or leave it? Do you even have AC?

Oh wait, there are a couple of other comments I wanted to make.

The first air-conditoner I remember us having when I was a child was a big window unit that Dad put in the middle room of our house.

BUT before we got that, Mom and Dad bought a car that had air-conditioning. I remember them taking a ride in the evening to get cooled down. :-)

I only remember Mom and Dad having the big window unit, not ever central air.

Oh, and when I was single and living on my own, I didn't have AC in any of my apartments until the last one before Ed and I got married.

It had CENTRAL AIR! I thought I had died and gone to heaven but it didn't last long.

You see, it was an old unit and the landlord told me that when it quit, he wouldn't be replacing it.

Well, I had only been living there for perhaps two months and it quit!!! Sooooo, I bought a fan and that was that! AND I don't have any recollection of it being so terribly awful in having to deal with the heat and humidity.

When Ed and I got married, we lived in this same apartment without AC. We then bought our first house and it had a HUGE window AC unit and it was sooooo noisy. It roared! It was in the living room and when we tried watching TV, this AC was so loud it made it virtually impossible to hear the TV unless you really turned it up.......yes, you had to get up and TURN the TV up then. :-) My, how things have changed!

And then, the way the rooms in the house were positioned, the AC didn't cool the other rooms down very well, though we did use a fan or two to try and circulate the cool air around the rest of the house.

Then we moved into our mobile home, in which we live now. We brought the big window AC unit with us and if that thing roared in the bigger house, you can only imagine how it was in this smaller home. Oh my!

We actually sold it after awhile because we just couldn't stand the noise and we didn't haven't AC for some time until we moved our mobile home to where we are now.

We now have central air and I looooove it!!!!! And not too long ago, the power went out AND, believe it or not, we DID manage to sleep pretty well that night, in spite of not having AC.

So, I guess the bottom line is that we can do what we have to do, hm? If we HAD to live without AC, we would just do it, BUT I do loooooove me some cool, breeze-blowing AC! Yes, I do! :-)






AND if all else fails, I guess we could just do what this cute little guy is doing, hm? :-)

Finally, a day of rest!

Well, after a busy holiday weekend, today looks to be a true day off. :-) Even if it is Monday. Jaylon and I were struggling with sickness most of the week last week and I just wasn't up to posting though I did read blogs and comment some. And then by the time I finished doing that, I just didn't have the time or feel like composing a decent post of my own. BUT I am all better now! :-)

I am finally over the bout of bronchitis which hit last Monday. I lost my voice for a couple of days. Then little Jaylon started running a fever Wednesday morning. He was a pretty sick little guy for a couple of days. His temperature would spike, come down with Motrin, then spike again after a few hours. Bless his heart.....I just held him and kept a cool cloth at hand to wipe him with. But in between times, when the medicine took his fever down, he was almost normal, running around and playing. Then the medicine would wear off and his temp would shoot up again, at one time to 104!

Erin took him to Urgent Care Thursday evening and they said he didn't have ear infection, strep, or any other malady that they could see, so they said it was probably viral, keep him hydrated and administer Motrin/Tylenol as needed.

Come Friday, the little guy was fine! Thankfully.....as the kids had been planning to go away for the weekend to visits friends in northern Ohio who have a little daughter who is Jaylon's age.

Ed and I mowed the grass Friday morning! That is the first time I have mowed grass in years!!! I was unable to because of physical and health problems. I actually like to mow grass sometimes. I find it kind of relaxing and a good time to just be alone with my thoughts.

We have matching riding mowers! Below is a picture of "you-know-who" on grandpa's mower! :-) He looooves to ride on the mower with grandpa!

That is one thing I love about the summer holiday weekends. Everyone has their houses and lawns all fixed up and dressed up for the holidays!! :-)

A week ago yesterday (Sunday), we had the annual Peters' Family Reunion at my niece April's house. She and her husband, Kevin, so graciously opened their home so we could all gather there and have plenty of room inside and out.
I believe everyone had a great time and we did have LOTS of delicious food! Oh yum!
They have a pool and the kids had a great time in it, as you can imagine. :-) And they also have a trampoline......no, I didn't get on the trampoline. :-) They set up a volleyball net and most everyone had a turn at that. I watched from the deck and enjoyed seeing everyone having such a great time!
Erin got some great pictures of Daniel and little Jaylon enjoying the water! I was in there, too, but you won't be seeing any pictures of me here! :-)

I hope you had a great holiday weekend with your friends and loved ones! I am so thankful for our wonderful country and the men and women who have fought for and continue to defend our freedoms. There is scarcely a day that passes that I do not think of them and pray for them.

Saturday in our little valley

Okay, this has nothing to do with my post title BUT can someone tell me how you can get a blog button like Mrs. Nurse Boy has......look about half-way down on my sidebar and you will see a blog button that says "Poop on Jelly". We are blogging buddies and I just loooove her blog, which her husband, Mr. Nurse Boy contributes to, too!
I would just love to have a blog button but don't want to have to make it myself and would gladly pay a modest fee to have someone make one for me!

Daniel and Erin took vacation days yesterday and Daniel came over and christened my shiny, NEW grill by grilling chicken breast I had marinated overnight, brats and hot dogs. We also had mac and cheese, chips and potato salad that I made earlier. The kids don't eat potato salad. Too many foreign ingredients, they say. :-)

Then after lunch, Jaylon went down for a nap and so did Daniel on the living room floor, Erin on the sofa and Ed in his recliner, while I went to the computer to do a few things: Facebook, emailing, paying bills and reading blogs, in the cool quietness of the living room/family room.

Below is a picture of my porch swing that Ed and I painted last Friday morning before it got too terribly hot.

It had been stained brown before but I wanted it to match my porch rocker so we painted it with white enamel and it looks sooooo much better. Painting it was a bit tedious but well worth the effort!
We've been endeavoring to get a few things updated and so on this summer and we are making pretty good progress. :-)

ANDDDDDD........last night Ed took me to see the All-Ohio Youth Choir Cardinal Chorale perform at the First Presbyterian Church in Logan. He knows that I love this sort of thing and my girlfriends were all busy or out of town, so he said he would take me!!! Yayy!
Oh, and I told him that he had to at least ACT like he was enjoying himself! AND he really DID enjoy himself! The chorale was awesome! And we got to see quite a few people that we hadn't seen for awhile!
The chorale is comprised of singers from the original choir. The chorale travels around the state singing at different venues to bring attention to the choir which performs every year at the state fair in August.
After the concert concluded, the young people milled about with all of those that attended the concert. It was great to get an opportunity to meet them personally and get to know them a little.
You can tell that they are an exeptional group of young people, ranging from high school seniors to college sophmores.
It was a great evening! Thank you, Ed!! :-)

I woke up this morning unable to talk above whisper, coughing and sneezing. I've not been feeling the greatest this week, especially in the mornings and I've felt like maybe I was getting bronchitis. Sure enough, I have.

I've been around quite a few people with a plethora of ailments, so I guess I was bound to catch something from someone.

Well, I finally started feeling "human" again around three this afternoon after being in bed for most of the day. So I got up, showered, ate a little and Ed and I watched a little TV, went outside and sat on the porch.

Now, it is 8:53pm and I'm starting to feel pretty rough again.

Isn't it funny how you can feel bad in the morning.......feel better briefly in the afternoon/early evening......and as soon as it begins to get dark outside, you start feeling yucky again? :-/

I'm taking some OTC medicine to kind of quell this floogey I have, until I go for my regular 4-month check-up with my doctor scheduled for this coming Tuesday.

BUT I am going to the family reunion tomorrow afternoon at four, if it kills me!! Which it probably won't because I should be feeling pretty good during those hours. :-)

Wednesday with Jewel :-)

Ed has been working like crazy outside....well, actually NOT "like crazy" because Ed is one of those guys who paces himself, works steadily along, takes a water break briefly and really enjoys whatever it is he is doing at the moment....sprucing up the place and putting some extra and finishing touches to the flower beds and yard and all. I think it all looks pretty terrific! :-) AND I believe he is just about done for the summer, believe it or not, and we should be able to just enjoy it all from here on out, except for mowing and trimming.





And what am I doing while he is working away? Taking care of Jaylon, doing laundry, playing with Jaylon, cooking, chasing after Jaylon, cleaning, playing cars with Jaylon, paying bills, reading to Jaylon, watering plants, helping Jaylon to eat/feeding Jaylon, fixing something to eat for Ed, playing with Jaylon out on the front porch where he has his Little Tikes water table, motorcycle/rocking toy, play balls, etc.

You get the general idea! :-) And I wouldn't have it any other way! I just love this little guy!!!

I made what will possibly be one of many strawberry pies that we will enjoy this summer! Yes, it is gone! It scarcely lasted two days and I only had one piece! Ed looooves his desserts! He said his two favorite kinds of pie are "hot" and "cold"! Oh ha ha.....:-)


Don't get me wrong....I love the occasional piece of pie or a cookie with my morning coffee but oh, I LOOOOOVE me some chips, bread, meat, potatoes, vegetables. Oh, and Dortios? We won't even go there!

I've been planning our annual Peters Family Get-together/Reunion which is this coming Sunday at my niece's home.

It looks like everyone is going to be able to be there. Now if they just choose to be there.

I've been emailing, FB messaging and phoning everyone to make sure everyone knows who is bringing what and so on. I'm taking a strawberry pie or two and possibly a tortellini salad or sloppy joes or....well, I'm just waiting to see what everyone else finally decides on! THEN I'll definitely make up my mind!! :-)

I just love all of my family!! My nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. We don't get to see eachother very often, so I really look forward to Christmas and then summer get-togethers!!

In closing this post, I'll leave you with a picture of Ellie the kitty of the house peering out of an empty Pepsi box that she managed to squeeze her chubby little self into. :-)

I had just set the box there for Ed to dispose of and lo and behold if Ellie didn't take up residence in it! :-) So I left it there for a few days until she grew tired of it. :-)

Still among the living!

Gosh, but I've been trying to catch up with reading blogs and commenting, all the while needing to post to my own blog. I'm doin' my best! "The hurrier I go, the behinder I get!" :-)

This week has been busier than most AND I've been dealing with a feeling of almost bordering on exhaustion. Go figure. My friend, Pat, says that I try to do too much. BUT I tend to disagree with her, BUT today I've sincerely endeavored to take it easy and rest, since we don't have little Jaylon today.

Ed is not working this summer, which is his first summer off in six years! And I am enjoying having him home so much!!! He helps me with Jaylon so much! AND speaking of Jaylon.....he's growing by leaps and bounds and is such a cutie pie!!!

And he's such a happy little guy! We have so much fun with him!
I am sometimes amazed at how many pictures I've taken and continue to take of him! Oh my!! LOL

I finally decided on and bought a new set of dishes. It seems to take me FOREVER to make decisions sometimes! But, alas! I finally found just what I wanted! I've had them for a few weeks and just love them!

Some evenings when Daniel comes in after work to get little Jaylon, I am just amazed by how handsome he is and how nice he looks! (I know, I know, it's because I'm his mother *smile*) And he always dresses so nicely. Soooo, I just HAD to take a picture or three the other evening! :-)

I made Spanish Rice for lunch today and dressed it up with tomatoes, lettuce, black olives, sour cream, grated cheese and tortilla chips. It was sooooo delicious!!! It is one of my favorites!! AND I think it looked so pretty in one of the bowls from my new dishes! :-)

These two shall become one....

Ed and I had just pulled into the carport, arriving home from church shortly after noon. While gathering my things, I noticed a little change in the drink holder on the console between the two front seats. It quickly passed through my thoughts that I should see if there are any quarters in there because we save and give our quarters to many different causes at church.

I had no more than had that thought and gotten out of the car than Ed said, " You should see if there are any quarters in the car and put them in the lighthouse at church."

What? Did he just read my mind? I shook my head a little. Uncanny, hm? And we seem to be doing this thing more and more often. :-)

Soooooo, we come into the house, put our things away, change our clothes and I commence to fixing dinner, which I already have almost ready because I put chicken and dressing in the crockpot before we left for church this morning.

So, I'm minding my own business, fixing dinner, when Ed turns to me and says the very thing that I am THINKING! (although neither of us can remember just what it was, now, a few hours after the fact. :-/ This is happening more and more, too! LOL)

BUT, we do this more and more the longer we are married and I think it is so neat, though at times kind of weird feeling, making me think: Should I be REALLY careful about what I am allowing myself to think? :-) I think not. :-)

Like I always say: What's mine is mine and what's his, is mine! LOL Money, thoughts......we're in this together!!!! For keeps!!!!

A rainbow in my kitchen

About two years ago, my twin brother Johnny gave each of the ladies in our ladies group at church a little crystal angel ornament.

I loved it so much that I didn't want to pack it away with the other christmas ornaments, so I hung it in my kitchen window where I could see it every day!
Well, I would see it every day and always remember Johnny and say a prayer for him but one morning, not too long ago, I noticed Jaylon looking at something on the floor, so I took a closer look, too.


A rainbow on my kitchen floor! What a pleasant and happy thing! And it took little Jaylon for me to notice it once again! And appreciate it.
I guess I had just gotten a little too busy and preoccupied to notice it or appreciate it like I used to. It happens.

Oh, but isn't a rainbow just the most beautiful thing especially when it comes as a gift from your twin brother? :-)

Oh, it IS a gorgeous morning here in SE Ohio! Cool and fresh, the birds singing, the smell of honeysuckle in the breeze. *sighhhhh* And temperatures in the low 70's again today. *sighhhh* I love springtime!

Wellllll.....we went to my 40th class reunion Friday evening and had an absolutely wonderful time!!! It was more like a FAMILY reunion!!! :-)

You see, there were only 21 in my graduating class. Our school was in the country and all of the classes were very small. Our school went from 1st through 12th grades.

Most of the kids in my class went through all 12 grades together, which I think is sooooo neat.

Anywayyyyy.......there were 14 of us who were able to make it and 9 of us brought spouses, so there were 23 altogether.

Oh, but we laughed and shared wonderful memories, looked at our old school pictures. We girls could have stayed for hours and talked and laughed.

And would you believe my camera was on the blink?! Of all times! But my sister-in-law took a picture of all of us, so when I get it, I will post it! :-)

Jaylon and I took our morning walk yesterday and he was so taken by the daisies along the road.....




So, I picked a couple for him, he looked for the horses in the neighboring pasture and then we headed for home, daisies in hand. :-)

There is a local greenhouse that Ed and I just love. The family is just wonderful and we look forward to seeing them each spring. They have the greenhouse at their home but sell the flowers/plants yearly at a stand they have along Rt. 33. Their flowers, hanging baskets and vegetable bedding plants are a cut above.

Well, this year they have awesome tomato plants. One in particular is called Husky Reds, which doesn't get very big, though the stems are thick and strong, is planted in a big pot and already has tomatoes on it. Ed and I bought one and are anxiously awaiting the first ripe tomatoes!

Below is a beautiful pot of flowers that I purchased at the world's largest retailer. :-) I usually assemble my own, but this one was sooo lovely, I couldn't resist.
Now, I've never had much luck with petunias. I know....go figure....who can't grow petunias? Uh, that would be me. :-/

BUT I am endeavoring to keep them "dead-headed", watered sufficiently, and "sunshined" adequately, so we'll see if I manage to kill them off they survive.

The economy is sooo bad that....

I got a pre-declined credit card in the mail.

I ordered a burger at McDonald's and the kid behind the counter asked, "Can you afford fries with that?"

CEO's are now playing miniature golf.

I have made so many wonderful friends through blogging and, many times, it IS my social life. :-)
I first started blogging when I began having health problems and became pretty bound to the home here. Then I began taking care of little Jaylon as I was recovering from back-to-back hip replacement surgeries, so the internet helped me to stay in touch with other human beings then, too. :-)
People who do not use the computer or internet have some difficulty sometimes trying to understand how you could possibly have friends "through a computer" but it is indeed possible! :-)
Anywayyyyy......thank you again, Nel! And I do count you as a dear blogging friend!!! ((HUG))
