A sharing of the goings-on in my life while living in our little valley which is located in the beautiful Hocking Hills of Southeastern Ohio!

Random Dozen #4
1. Tell me the absolute best way to watch a movie.
Alone, in the den with just the ficus tree lights on, snuggled in the recliner with an afghan or my OSU quilt, freshly popped popcorn, a cold diet pepsi on ice and I'm all set!
2. Do you ever think about your own funeral? If so, do you have specific ideas about how you would like it to be?
Well, I have given it a thought or thirty through the years. Yes.
The one thing that does kind of concern me is who would do my hair. I wear it in kind of a unique style and the only other person that I can think of that could do it would be my older sister Bev. AND she is older, meaning she might go before I do....:-o, so I'm hoping and praying that my nephew Troy will come through for me because he is good at doing hair. (REMEMBER to cover up my forehead, Troy! AND to take care of any facial hair! Thank you in advance. *grin*)
3. Are you more of a giver or a taker?
I am a bit of both. I love doing things for other people, especially when they least expect it! I didn't used to be a very good taker but I've learned to be, more so, through the years, especially when I was so bad off physically. I am so thankful for the people, especially my DH, who helped me through that difficult period.
4. Vacations: planned activities and schedules, or play it by ear?
Mostly planned. I'm just not one for spur-of-the-moment stuff unless it is just driving into town for something.
5. What is one often overlooked item in your home that needs to be cleaned regularly?
The bookshelf here beside my computer desk. It is sooo dusty. I can't remember if I've ever dusted it. I know, I know. I should be ashamed but, amazingly, I'm not. I have my priorties straight. LOL
6. Name a cause that means a lot to you.
Missions because I cannot go, but I am able to give financially so that others can go to places and countries to spread the gospel of our precious Lord!
7. Do you eat a regular old peanut butter jelly sandwich, or do you customize it? And by the way, jelly or no jelly?
No, I don't eat them very often at all because I have this "diet" mentality thing going on, even when I'm not dieting, that reminds me of how fattening pb&j's are. BUT, if and when I do have one, I want crunchy peanut butter with ONLY grape jelly! :-) No other kind will do!
8. If we were having a conversation in person, how would I know if you were nervous?
I would be very distracted and find it very difficult to concentrate on a conversation with you. I get very quiet when I am nervous. Amazing, I know. :-0
9. Do you have an elaborate bedtime routine, or just the basics of tooth brushing and jammies?
I think it is just the basics: wash my face and hands, brush my teeth, put on lotion, read, pray, sleep. :-)
10. Have you ever regretted something you wrote on your blog?
Well, one time I wrote about some of Ed's little idiosynchrosies and didn't get a comment. I thought perhaps those who read the post thought I was being critical of him but I wasn't. I love all of the little nuances about him and have learned to be accepting of them and to see that they make him the wonderful man that he is!!
11. Has anyone ever told you that you look like a famous person or celebrity? Did you agree?
No, but people are always telling me that I remind them of someone they know. Go figure.
12. If you were going to dedicate a song to a loved one or friend, what would the song be and to whom would it be dedicated?
"I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack
I'd like to have this song played at my funeral for Daniel.
Here are just a few of the lyrics:
"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder,
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger,
May you never take one single breath for granted,
GOD forbid love ever leave you empty handed,
I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean,
Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens,
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance,
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance.
I hope you dance....."

Monday randomness!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What a day it has been!!! It feels like it started last night though!
Daniel and Erin were on their way to church and while waiting for a traffic light to change, were backended by a young lady who wasn't even beginning to apply her brakes. Her car was totalled but Daniel and Erin just need a new bumper and a few other little things that insurance will cover. Thankfully, the young lady has insurance. Little Jaylon was in his car seat sleeping and didn't even wake up until later about halfway through Sunday evening's service! AND they said he woke up with a smile on his face! Thank the Lord for His protection!
THEN on the way home from church , an animal of some sort, though it wasn't a deer, ran out in front of them and cracked their front bumper and wheelwell liner.
Daniel said that he couldn't help but ask the Lord what he (Daniel) had done wrong and I assured him that it is just life. It rains on the just and the unjust. Sometimes it feels like a downpour but he and Erin both were taking it all really well!
They both took today off, got checked out at Urgent Care and got estimates on both accidents. Thankfully, the car did not sustain much damage and is drivable. This is the new car they just got a month ago. *smile* It happens. They were taking it all very well, I must say.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaylon is crawling everywhere! I love it! He saw Ellie the cat, who was sitting across the living room from him, and he took off for her, going "ooooo.....ooooo......ooooo" He was so excited! He actually was able to touch her nose, too. Ellie actually let him touch her nose! Miracles DO happen! :-) And then she scurried off to the safety of the den.
Soooo, I grabbed my camera, ready to get this all on video and the batteries were dead!!! THE BATTERIES WERE DEAD!!!! Can you believe it?!?!?! I just used the camera yesterday and it was fine! Grrrrrrrrr!!! I am just praying that I get another chance at a similar picture! It was priceless!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ANDDDDDDD.....*drumroll please*......Jaylon is saying MOM!!!! Yayyyyy!!!! :-) He can talk!!!! It was naptime and he was a little whiney and he started saying, "Mom, mom, mom, mom...." It was so adorable!!! I'm sure he knows that I am not "Mom" because when Daniel and Erin returned later to pick him up, he caught sight of her and started again as he crawled toward her...."mom, mom, mom..." Awwww, it is so adorable!!! (Can you tell I LOVE this little boy?)
I'm going to try and get a video of him crawling and saying "mom" and post it here. Pray for me. :-/ LOL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our living room is beginning to look like a miniature Toys r Us.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It is supposed to only be 34 degrees here in our little valley Wednesday morning, so we will be moving our living room furniture around tomorrow so that we can fire up the woodburner. It isn't even October yet, for heaven's sake!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I fixed a big pot of chili Friday and Ed said it was "phenomenal"! The best I had ever made! Wow!! It was delicious and I do love cooking for him but I wasn't expecting that big of a compliment! I do appreciate that he is so appreciative of my efforts and he lets me experiment, using him as my guinea pig! :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is anything as good and satisfying as a GOOD hamburger?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our church weiner roast this past Friday night was so much fun! I love sitting by a fire, relaxing and enjoying good company, laughing and enjoying a burnt hotdog with mustard! (That's how I like mine! ) *smile*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am still holding at my 16lb. weight loss and just have to get on the move again! I tivo'd Jillian Michaels on The Doctors this afternoon in the hopes that she can inspire me to get with it!!!! I also tivo'd Dr. Oz last week when he had a program about losing weight but I have yet to watch it. *feeble grin* Oh, and I have the first episode of Biggest Loser tivo'd to watch, too, hoping to get inspired but I haven't watched it yet, either. (Do you see a pattern here? LOL)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AND lastly, on the last Monday of the month, I take my sister Debbie to the local food giveaway. Today, we waited in line for 2 hours. You wait in your car, inching along as the line progresses. Then you drive through the lot and the workers put the food stuffs in the back of your vehicle.
Well, she got a box of twelve Michelini meals that she does not have freezer space for so she gave them to me. Well, we didn't have freezer space for them either, so Ed took them over to Daniel and Erin's and put them in their freezer. (They weren't home.) About an hour later, here came Daniel and Erin with the said Michelini dinners in hand saying that they had brought home some groceries and didn't have room for the dinners and were also toting a partial gallon of ice cream that they needed to find space for. Did we have some extra freezer space? Well, like, no, that's why we put the dinners in YOUR freezer. Sooooo, I called my friend Pam and asked her if SHE wanted and had the freezer space for twelve dinners, a gallon of ice cream and a partridge in a pear tree....ha ha. *grin* Thankfully, she did!
The end.

I hope you've had a wonderful Monday!!!! :-)

Time for a change!
BUT this particular two-column template has the sidebar stuff on the left while I am used to everything being on the right so I have found myself sitting here feeling a bit off-kilter, kind of leaning to the left and feeling like my eyesight needs adjusted. Weird,hm? Yep, that's me!!! :-)
I thought about trying the three-column template out but that's a bit too busy for me I think. We'll see. I may give it a try!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Erin and I went to the ladies' meeting at her church Tuesday evening and had a wonderful time BUT while I only took a little bit of each delicious food offering which amounted to one plate of food and two small portions of dessert, I gained two pounds overnight!!!! Egads!! How does that happen?!
The good news is that I've lost it already and I've maintained my 16 lb. weight-loss but I'm really wanting to reach that 20lb. goal sometime soon!!
And while I LOOOVE chicken, I've eaten so much of it of late that I wouldn't be surprised if sometime soon I start clucking!! LOL
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jaylon started crawling this past Wednesday! Yeehaa! We discovered that he has to REALLY want a particular object before he will waste his time and energy crawling.
Soooo, when Erin came to pick him up Wednesday evening, she put Jaylon down on the living room floor on his back and placed the TV remote across the room from him.
That little bundle of joy flipped over on is stomach faster than you could whistle Dixie, got up on his hands and knees, took off and didn't stop until he had that thing in his hands and was chewing on it!! I couldn't believe it!! And here we had been wondering what was holding him back! LOL
AND he will do the same thing for this little green morroco that our pastor's wife gave me for him. AND for his bottle IF he is hungry!
Oh, but to see him flip over on his stomach and take off for that remote!! LOL I just stood there with my mouth hanging open!
And then when he got it in his little paws he rolled back over on his back and commenced to chewing on the end of it!
Here he is enjoying the fruits of his labor!! :-)
Have a great weekend, everyone!

It is finished!
Random Dozen Meme #3!
1. Please share one middle school memory. It can be good, bad, ugly, funny. Pictures or words, I don't care, just share.
Okay, I didn't go to a middle school. Our 7th and 8th grade was kind of separate from the high school kids and grade school, though. I experienced my first kiss in 7th grade! It was awful!!! :-) Talk about "gnashing of teeth"! And that is all I have to say about that! LOL
2. What's your favorite Beatles song?
When I Saw Her Standin' There
This was one of their early songs and I have memories of them strumming their guitars, Ringo playing the drums and them shaking their "long" hair about as they sang it! :-)
3. If I asked you to describe your most comfortable outfit, what would it be?
Does my nightgown count? No? :-)
Well, it would have to be one of my black straight skirts ( I have several.), my pink t-shirt top, and my pink,white, and black print georgette over-blouse! It is my go-to outfit for most any occasion!
4. Would you rather host a party or be a guest?
Oh, I'd much rather be a guest, these days. Hosting a party is so much work though I used to enjoy having them so much. I love it best when a group of us can host!
5. Do you think we will move completely from traditional books to digital ones, and if we do, are you OK with that?
Oh, I can't ever see us going to all digital books because there is nothing like holding the book, turning the pages and the smell of the paper and all. It is a sensory experience that could never be replaced with a hard plastic digital device! Ever!
6. Do you learn best by reading, listening or experiencing?
I believe that I learn best by experiencing though I've not proven this scientifically but it is how I tend to teach others, whether it is piano lessons, computer, etc.
7. If you are (or when you were) single, what is the kiss of death for you concerning the opposite sex? (That is, what is one trait or behavior or habit or anything at all that immediately turns you off from considering that person a potential match for you?)
Manners and language skills.
I actually broke up with a great guy because he ate like it was his last meal...everytime! He took me out for a wonderful dinner where he had a t-bone steak. After eating all of the meat that he could cut off the bone, he picked up the bone and commenced to chewing on it! I about died! AND he smacked his lips horribly, licked his fingers. I tried to get past this, as we dated for several months but I just couldn't do it. I cringed every time we ate anywhere, whether it was at home or out some where.
8. Snacks. Salty or sweet?
Definitely salty! I loooooove chips!
9. Look around you in a four foot radius. What object is around you that you didn't realize was there or forgot was there? How long has it been there?
Hmmm....a book that I've been meaning to read: Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World by Joanna Weaver. I really do need to read this book!
10. What is your favorite Tom Cruise movie?
Mission Impossible and The Last Samurai (I couldn't choose!)
11. You buy a bottle of shampoo and discover that you don't like what it does to your hair at all. What do you do with that full bottle?
Give it to a family member or friend! Or Ed might possibly use it! :-)
12. Your favorite Fall comfort food? (Last week it was beverage.)
Hmmm......Pumkin pie with Cool Whip? Or possibly potato soup with corn muffins? Or hot dogs roasted over an open fire? We're having our annual church weiner roast this Friday night! I loooooove hot dogs roasted until they are almost burnt, on a soft bun, with mustard! Yum!! :-)

God is in control
My Father's way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache,
But in my soul I'm glad I know,
He maketh no mistake.
My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I'll trust my Lord to lead,
For He doth know the way.
Though night be dark and it may seem ,
That day will never break,
I'll pin my faith, my all in Him,
He maketh no mistake.
There's so much now I cannot see,
My eyesight's far too dim;
But come what may, I'll surely trust,
And leave it all to Him.
For by and by the mist will lift
And plain it all He'll make;
Through all the way, though dark to me,
He made not one mistake.
(A. M. Overton)

We all face times of questioning and doubt in our walk with the Lord and in searching for scriptures online yesterday, I happened upon this website, where I discovered this beautiful poem. It was later set to music as a hymn by Adrian V. Miller. It ministered to me so and I wanted to share with it you, just in case you are in need of some encouragement.

Good Monday Morning!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I went to our county fair Saturday evening to assist my nephew Brian as he held down the fort at my brother-in-law's (his father) booth. My brother-in-law does photography in his spare time and does a very good job at it!! He displayed many of his photos and also had a screensaver and DVD of the Hocking Hills for sale.
I got to see soooo many people that I hadn't seen for soooo long! And that is one of the main reasons I like to go to the fair. Well, that and the FOOD! :-)
AND in deciding what to have to eat....hunger didn't necessarily have anything to do with it.....it's the fair! :-) I had a humongous and uber-delicious fish sandwich! Oh my word! I was heading out to get a steak sandwich that had been recommended, but right in front of me was this place selling fish sandwiches for $4, which is a bargain at the fair! Each sandwich had like two huge pieces of freshly breadly, freshly deep-fried fish on a big, soft bun with tartar sauce and I added a little malt vinegar. The fish was not crispy hard, nor was it soggy. It was just tender, flaky and good!! Oh my!! And that is all that I'll say about that! :-) *sighhhh*
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I parked approximately 4 blocks from the fair and as I was walking back to my car later that evening, I just had to thank the Lord because I am able to walk so freely after having been so crippled up and in pain for so long. I still have some lower back issues but it is so minimal compared to what I had been suffering. Thank you, Jesus, for bringing me so far!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The weather this past week was some of the most beautiful that I can remember. Jaylon and I spent alot of time outside sitting on the porch enjoying the sunshine and pleasant breezes! He is so content to just be outside. He loves to hear his voice and sometimes would just scream at the top of his lungs and then laugh! I think he liked the echo and different sound that he heard when outside as compared to indoors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I made a big pot of potato soup Saturday afternoon and it was scrumptious. I know everyone makes it differently but here is my recipe for potato soup:
Okay.....wait a sec....I'll have to give this some thought because I don't measure anything. :-)
A few potatoes, peeled and diced. Onions and celery sauteed in butter. So much water. So much milk. I'll try to narrow it down and post it a little later,k? :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I spent most of the day Saturday doing different small tasks here at home. I put out some fall decorations. Gathered up all of Daniel's shot glasses that he has collected through the years, washed them, packed them away until the display case I ordered arrives. Reframed some pictures and replaced a broken piece of glass in one of my favorite pictures.
The NEW Survivor!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is supposed to be my online journal and while, according to the lack of posts, you would think that nothing is going on in my life.....just the opposite is true!
The extent of my internet activities has been to click "like" on a few FaceBook comments and to read the most recent posts on the blogs I follow! *sigh*
I'll get on the ball soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
For now, I must get ready for church, so I will say TTFN and hopefully post later tonight!!!
I need to post something!
What is WRONG with me?!?!??!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We had a really great time with Daniel, Erin and little Jaylon this past weekend. We left Sunday morning at 8 o'clock and headed for Dayton. We had breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Columbus and it was delicious, as usual!
Here's Ed and Daniel playing their customary game of checkers! :-)
Oh and here is Jaylon enjoying HIS breakfast! :-)
And here is Erin and Jaylon enjoying the rocking chairs while the guys finish their game of checkers:
I found two lovely books in the "sale" corner of the gift shop! 70% off!!
They were "Blessings for Your Home".
I've already given one to a dear friend as a gift but I think I'm going to keep the other one for ME! :-)
And what a surprise we had at the Air Force Museum....
Oh, and that is why we went to Dayton in the first place...to tour the Air Force Museum!
My oldest brother, Bill and his family were there, too! Amazing!! We had a great time visiting and such. We all went to the cafe and got a snack and visited some more! We only live about 15 minutes from eachother but we don't see one another very often, so it was a wonderful surprise! We do talk every week, though, usually during America's Got Talent! We all eachother during the show to discuss the different acts! :-) AND my twin brother, Johnny and I do the same! :-)
Anywayyyy.....I didn't get any good pictures inside the museum because it was so dark and I didn't know how to adjust my camera for the lighting. :-/
Sunday evening, we ate at one of the most unique restaurants I've ever been to! Quaker Steak and Lube! It is a take off of Quaker State Oil and Gas Stations. It is so neat!
AND the food was delicious! I had the most delicious fish sandwich I've ever had! They have a restaurant near Polaris in North Columbus and hopefully we can go there sometime...soon!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On our way home Monday, we went to Jeffersonville Outlet Mall and shopped for awhile! It wasn't too crowded when we first arrived, which was before noon, but by the time we left it was teaming with people! I was glad to get out of there! :-0
I'm not one who likes to shop unless I have to but we knew the kids wanted to stop by the mall while we were in the area, so I did take advantage of the opportunity and purchased a few things while Ed relaxed on one of the benches with a good book, watching the crowds go by. By the time we left, I was worn out! Shopping does that to me! :-)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daniel and Erin got a new car last week (2006 Chevy Impala)and Ed and I rode in the back seat wtih Jaylon! He acted like he was happy to have the company! You know how we grandparents are! We can be so entertaining! :-) It was nice to "ride" along for a change and especially so because of little Jaylon being back there with us!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today I am endeavoring to freeze the better part of 20 lbs. of potatoes that were given to me because I don't want them to go to waste! It is quite a bit of work but will be worth the effort, I'm sure!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hope you are having a great day and enjoying beautiful weather, wherever you are! It is a gorgeous early fall day here in SE Ohio! :-)

This and that!
I've lost three more pounds this week and I do believe it is all attributable to my not eating after five or six o'clock! It hasn't been easy! :-/ I mean, what is it about sitting down in front of the Tv that makes a person want to eat?? *sigh*
Anywayyyyy......I am only 4 pounds from my goal of losing 20lbs. before the ladies' retreat on the 11th! BUT we are going away for a couple of days. Daniel, Erin, Jaylon, Ed and I are going to Dayton to visit the Air Force Museum, spend the night.....not at the museum!.....no, we staying at a nearby hotel!......maybe do some shopping at a couple of outlet malls and of course, EAT! So, I'm thinking the 4 pounds-by-Friday might be a long shot! :-) We'll see. I'm gonna try to not overdo it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a campfire tonight! It was wonderful!! Ed doesn't care to sit around a campfire much because the bugs eat him alive, while they don't bother me at all.
I haven't been able to have a campfire for several years because of the physical ailments that I suffered with for so long. It is so relaxing and peaceful to just sit there and enjoy the night air and the night sounds, watching the stars come out.
When Daniel was quite a bit younger, he and I used to make a campfire and sit down there with Bearly, our family dog by our side. We made some wonderful memories.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I hope you are having a great holiday weekend with your families and friends! God Bless!!! :-)
A Sunday Meme!
1. When you go to Wowmart, what one thing do you get every single time, besides a funky-wheeled squeaking cart full of frustration?
Boneless, skinless chicken breasts! Can you believe it? I’m endeavoring to lose weight, and …well….this has become a staple item in our house! Well, it always HAS been a staple item but even more so now!
2. What is something that people are currently “into” that you just don’t get or appreciate?
Corn Hole?
3. What is something that really hoists your sail that other people might feel “ho-hum” about?
Hmmmm....this one is kind of difficult. Well, I looooove when I can be first in line for anything which seldom if ever happens! :-) I usually wait for the line to dwindle or the crowd to thin out before taking my turn.
AND tonight I had a campfire all by myself! :-) Now, don't feel sorry for me thinking that I was all by myself and it would have been nice to have some friends with me. You see, I love sitting by a fire by myself and just thinking and relaxing. While it was still light enough, I read for awhile but as it got darker, I just relaxed and watched the fire and the sky and listened to the night sounds. It was the first time I had been able to do something like this for several years because of the physical impairments I had for so long!
Oh, and Ed doesn't care for sitting by a campfire at night because the insects eat him alive, while tey don't bother me at all!
4. Favorite song to sing in the shower or car? Would you believe I don’t sing in the shower or car? :-o
5. A really great salad must have this ingredient:
Meat! Chicken, Ham, Turkey, Beef, but it must have meat and tomatoes!
6. What advice in a nutshell would you give to new bloggers?
Post at least two times a week consistently and preferably on the same days. I don’t do either but know that I really should! (Do as I say/not as I do? :-/)
7. What was the alternate name that your parents almost named you? Do you wish they had chosen it instead of the one they gave you?
I don’t know that they had an alternate name. BUT my siblings are Bill, Bev, Debbie, John and they got to me and called me Jewel Bell!! Such an unusual name seeing as how they named my siblings such common names! J But I love my name!! J
8. What in your life are you waiting for?
The second coming of the Lord!
9. You get a package in the mail. What is it, and who is it from?
Hmmm….probably an item of clothing from CJ Banks!
10. Today–what song represents you?
I’m Gonna Soak Up the Sun…I’m Gonna Tell Everyone to lighten up!!!
11. What is one thing that blogging has taught you about yourself?
That I need to be more consistent AND that there really are people who are interested in what I have to say!!!
12. How are you going to (or how did you) choose the clothes you’re wearing today?
What do they say about you in general and how you are feeling today?
I chose my clothes according to the weather forecast! It was sunshiney and warm so I chose a black skirt, white t-shirt top and red short sleeve over-blouse. Also, Ohio State played today and their colors are scarlet and gray with black and white mixed in, so I wanted to show my colors for the team, too!
